Final Reflections

Students were asked to pen down their final thoughts about what they have learnt and what they will do in the future. The last question was aimed at getting them to evaluate their trip.

SNNameWhat have you learnt from this trip? How would you do it in the future?Final thoughts
Jayden I learnt that equipment, from small to large, is important, and we can get set back because of small issues.I would like to fully check if i have all the equipment I need.In my opinion, this trip was meaningful and engaging. It was the first astronomy trip that I have been on, and it has provided me with confidence and trust for future astronomy trips. Because of this trip, i got more hands on activity with telescopes, learnt how the telescopes work, and also tested on fox hunting. I am incredibly thankful for this trip.
ClydeI have learnt a lot about the earth, how the fox hunting can be conducted and the usage of radio telescopes.I would make sure the transmitters are hidden in open areas during fox hunting to ensure the game is fair and balanced,I think that this trip is very meaningful and also enjoyable at the same time. I have learnt a lot during this trip and I think that having a hands-on trip is very meaningful.
AlexI have learnt more about radio telescopes, how to setup fox hunting and more about the our solar system and other planets. I would check all the equipment and the placement of the trasmitters so that a clear signal can be deteched. In my opinion, I think that trip was both enjoyable and fruitful at the same time as not only did we learn a lot of new stuff, we also had the chance to have a lot of fun.
KevinI learnt how the fox hunting can be conducted more effectively and the different aspects of the telescope and how they work together. For example, I learnt how to draw the ray diagrams of multiple lenses. I also learnt about the solar system like how planets are formed and some of the harsh environments of other planets. I should place the transmitters in an open space and away from metal so that it is easier to detect the signal. I also need to look at the number of the transmitter that I am placing. In my opinion, the trip was enjoyable and I learnt a lot from it. I also got to experiment with different things.
KennethDuring this trip, I learnt how to use the different tpes of equipment to measure and observe cosmic bodies and how radio waves works.I would do a double check the day before the trip to ensure no equipment is missing. This trip taught me that there are many things that could go wrong during your trip.
TonyMy main takeaway from this trip is that we should always prepare beforehand and to anticipate the worse (Murphy's Law). I also experienced how small things can cause big problems.I would always do preliminary checks on equipment and other important items before departing for a trip.In conclusion, this trip was an unforgettable experience as I was able to enjoy myself, as well as learn from my mistakes. I would like to thank those who were patient with me when I made mistakes, so as to allow me to learn from them.
You JiaI learned that equipment function can be hindered without some very small things.I would like to allocate two hours right before every trip to set up to see if everything can function. I would also possibly write a QM guide for future exco. This trip taught me that trips are not easy to prepare and execute.
Jia ChenI learnt that all every part of the equipment is essential for it to work properly, just like how when we did not have 2 screws, 2 antennas could not be used.I would check the equipment before packing it to ensure we did not miss out any components and check it again when we open it up. This would prevent a repeat of what happened on Day 1.I feel that this trip was a trip which helped me broden my knowledge on Radio Telecopes, the sun and our optical telescope. I also feel that the choice of Barelang as the location was a good idea as Barelang is far from light pollution but we have quite decent resort and food.
Kit HintI learnt that it is not easy to prepare for such a trip as many factors will have to be considered to make the trip go smoothly. Teamwork is also very important as one person setting up and doing everything is not possible. I would ensure that everyone has fun and that everyhing goes smoothly by performing test runs and checks on all the equipment so that we do not run into as many technical difficulties as this trip. This trip was good and it allowed me to learn more about things such as the solar system, radio waves and many more. It also allowed me to get to know the others better.
MosesI have learnt a lot about the telescopes during this trip such as the different lenses and how they affect the image seen, how to set them up correctly. I also have learnt that it is not easy to prepare for such a trip as many factors will have to be considered to make the trip go smoothly. Teamwork is also very important as one person setting up and doing everything is not possible. I would ensure that everyone has fun and that everything goes smoothly by checking on all the equipment so that we do not run into as many technical difficulties as this trip. I should place the transmitters in an open space and away from metal so that it is easier to detect the signal. I also need to look at the number of the transmitter that I am placing. I think that the duration of the trip could be a bit longer and could have run more smoothly as checks could have been done ob the equipment to ensure that the equipment will not malfunction or have any missing parts.
AdamI have learnt a lot about the telescopes during this trip such as the different lenses and how they affect the image seen, how to set them up correctly.I would be confident enough to set up the telescopes, and I will make sure I have all the parts to assemble the telescope. This was a delightful trip because we had sufficient time to relax but still learn a lot more about our CCA and what we can do with the range of all the telescopes.
AdielIn consolidation, strategic thinking is a vital factor that is necessary. There may be certain situations where the standard procedures could not be followed accordingly. For the situation to be restored back to normal, one would have to strategically think of a backup plan prior to further problems that may arise.Specifically for my role to keep track of everyone's presence, I might implement a buddy system in which every representative in from each room would have to raise their hands if their roommate is present. This reduces the time required for me to count the number of people present especially when everyone is in constant motion and the time needed to determine which club member is missing. In the future, I would implement the strategic ideas that I have thought of earlier on.
Jun HuaI learned to be a better teammate and a better game organiser. I also learned more about the various types of telescopes through the theory lessons gone through by Mr Tan.I would ensure that I would try to make group games more enjoyable for everyone regardless of whether I am a playa or an organiser by cooperating with the rules and with others. This trip was a nice relaxing break, very fun and most importantly educational. I felt this trip was very worth it since I got to observe the night sky when the sky was somewhat clear and got to see some beautiful sights.
AndrienI have learnt that teamwork is very important as we need to help each other in doing things in case they did something wrongly or they miss out on something.I should help with the packing of equipments and the checking also to confirm that the equipments that we bring are the right one so that we could have a smooth and pleasant trip.I think that planning and checking is the most important part of everything as we need to know what we are doing and what we are doing is correct.
ZacharyI learnt that we should check what we bring overseas so that we dont accidentaly bring wrong things or forget to bring things.Always double check your luggage before leaving. The whole experience of batam was very fun.
ErnestI have learnt to study briefings and plan for interuptions.Reread the planned activities and be ready for unexpected accidents.I have stretched my comfort zone and experenced more interesting things.
MadhulikaI have learnt how to be quick-thinking and well-planned.There were a lot of problems we faced, so we didnt let them hinder our learning. So in the future, i would make emergency plans and arrangements also think fast on the spot on what to do next.Concentration, planning ahead and being spontaneous are key values in every day life that would help us to develop our learning. This was what i learnt from this trip.
