SNNameWhat happened today? What is the cause of it?What have I learnt? What should I do in the future?
1Jayden Today we travelled to Batam, and went foxhunting in the afternoon. We then went stargazing at night. We encountered multiple problems during the foxhunting. The cause of the problems were not checking the labels of the transmitters, and not knowing where the different transmitters were at
because we did not check the label.
I learnt the small issues can cause big problems and that we should be more careful and responsibleI could check for mistakes or problems and make sure there is none before proceding with activities
2ClydeWe did fox hunting and there were some issues finding the transmitter. The game masters did not check the number of the transmitter, and each game master only knew the location of the transmitter they planted.I have learnt that the minor details and the small issues can cause big problems.I should make sure to check for the code before planting the transmitter if I am the game master.
3AlexWe travelled to Batam on a ferry. After arriving at Batam we conducted an activity called fox hunting. The sec 3s and me were the game masters for the activity. There were problems during the activity. First of all, we did not check the number on the transmitter that we are supposed to hide. Secondly, the frequency was blocked by buildings nearby so it was harder to find the transmitter. We didn't check the number on our own transmitters therefore when no one could find the last transmitter it was hard to track which is the one that was not found by the groups. I learn that even small issues and difficulties can cause big problems for the team. I should check the number of the transmitter that I am supposed to hide before hiding it to make sure that I know which transmitter I am hiding making it easier to find when any one of the transmitters went missing.
4KevinWe conducted fox hunting around the Harris Hotel facilities. I was one of the game masters and we were in charge of planting the transmitters around the hotel. We encountered some problems in finding the transmitters. At night, we went stargazing. The game masters did not check the number of the transmitters they were assigned to. I learnt that small details can be important and I should pay more attention to them.I should have looked at the code of the transmitter I was planting.
5KennethToday was the day where we travelled to Batam. We took a ferry at Harbourfront and arrived at Harris Resort at about 1.30 pm. After having our lunch, we were made to be the gamemasters for the Fox Hunting activity. We encountered problems such as not knowing which transmitter was not yet recovered. At night, we held a stargazing activity. We did not check the serial numbers of the transmitters and hence were not able to tell which transmitter was missing.I learnt that even the most insignificant details may result in a significant setback. We should have assigned a serial number to the five of us .
6TonyToday we travelled to Batam on a ferry and went to do Fox Hunting in the afternoon. While we were setting up the Fox Hunting equipment, I realised that a small screw was missing on two of the radios that connected it to the attenuator. My friends and I searched the whole room for at least an hour, but it proved futile. Two of the six antennas were decommissioned due to the loss of small screws.

At night we conducted stargazing sessions. While we were using the telescopes, we realised that it was with great difficulty to bend down to look through the eyepiece as the telescope was pointing upwards at a steep angle. In the end, we had to kneel or even sit down to look through the telescope.
The cause of this problem was due to negligence in taking care of the equipment and checking everything before departure. Not preparing well enough for the stargazing was to to the failure in preparation for possible future problems faced by members.I have learnt that we should always check everything before and after movement, to reduce loss of items. I also learnt that small things can cause big problems.I should have checked the equipment thoroughly before departure from Singapore. I also should have packed the star diagonal.
7You JiaOur first day in Batam started with activities such as setting up the radio telescope and fox hunting, followed by dinner and stargazing in the night. However, Two golden screws were missing from the receiver. For our stargazing, many of the celestial objects were not in the horizon, and we had some difficulty looking through the Celestron 5SE.For fox hunting, we have left the screws in the schools, during wrapping or packing. We did not check again just before leaving. For stargazing, it was because it was not the time of the year for the most prominent objects to be in the horizon early in the night.(Eg: jupiter, mars, saturn). For Celestron 5SE, we did not bring the star diagonal because we did not use the 5SE and the star diagonal often.Checking the most important parts of equipment is essential for smooth execution of our activities. The smallest screw missing can cause the largest problems. Stargazing should be planned for where and when to go, checking whether the best objects are in the horizon. It is good to check the telescope manuals once in a while. We should check our equipment, especially small parts just before leaving.(allocate more time to check equipment before leaving on the day itself) We should also plan trips in the time and area where we cna see the best objects in the sky. We should also always pack a star diagonal.
8Jia ChenToday, we arrived at barelang at about 12pm (Local time) and arrived at our resort at around 1.30pm. After lunch, we had to do prepare the fox hunting activities but 2 screws were missing. Therefore, only 3 teams could play. We also set up the radio telescope with the antenna spreading from my room's balcony to the rocks outside the room. At night, we conducted our stargazing, we saw mostly deep sky objects which were hard to see and we forgot to bring a telescope attatchment resulting in most of us having to bend or lie down on the ground just to look through the telescopeWe left the 2 screws which are used to connect the radios to the antennas in the school as we checked all the items and did not find the missing screws.I learnt that the little things can cause big problems, just like how losing two small screws eventually led us to only having 3 antennas to play withI should thoughly check through the equipment to ensure the screws are present and all the equpment works before packing the equipment.
9Kit HintToday, I went to school early with the other QM people where we brought all the equipment to the harbour. We then went to Batam where we took an hour long bus ride where we had lunch when we reached the resort. Then I did the preperation for the foxhunting where we 2 antennas were unable to be used. So we did the setting up of the radio telescope. We then had dinner and checked out the conference room. We then did stargazing where we managed to see the stars Sirius and Orion's Belt and ended the session at around 10 PM and all went back to our rooms. We did not check our equipment and left behind 2 screws which were essential for the antennas to work. And because we did no find it we came to the conclusion that due to our carelessness we had left it behind in school.I learnt that it is important to conduct checks as a small matter may cause big problems such as in today's case where we were left with only 3 fully functional antennas. Because of that, there was a reallocation and those that could not play helped us with setting up the radio telescope.I should make final checks to make sure that all the equipment is fully functional so as to ensure that everyone enjoys themsleves and not have to get involved in these problems that could have been easily avoided.
10MosesToday, we went to Batam. During the afternoon, I was supposed to play Fox Hunting. However, as the people in charge had lost several screws, my group could not play as the equipment did not work. So, instead, we went to help them set up the radio telescope. At night, we went stargazing. It was very tiring as the stars were right above us, so it was very hard to look up at the stars for a long period of time. However, we had managed to see several stars, such as Orions' belt and Sirus. The people in charge had lost several screws and thus the equipment did not work.Small things can cause big problems.Check before hand to see if all items were packed.
11AdamToday, we went to Barelang, and we had planned to conduct fox hunting for a few groups while the other students hid the foxes, aka transmitter, around the resort. Unfortunately, the people setting up the equipment lost one screw and damaged the other one so they could not set up two of them. We decided to set up the radio telescope from one end of the room to the outside of another room, and it was an interesting process because we learnt how to set it up. After that, we set up the telescopes together and all of us went for stargazing, looking for stars like Sirius and constellations such as the Orion. It was very tiring so a lot of people were just sitting on the ground while talking to their friends. The screws could not be used or found so they had suspected that they had left it in school. It had been confirmed that the fox hunting equipment could not be used anymore so to save time in the future, Mr Tan decided to help us set up the radio telescope first while waiting for the rest to complete their game. I have learnt that we should not cry over spilt milk and it is essential for us to move on with the activities when one of them fails. We should always double check to make sure nothing is missing. We can remind each other to ensure that they did not leave anything behind and also bring extras whenever possible.
12AdielOne signifcant thing done yesterday was the Fox Hunting activity executed by the Secondary 3 students and played by the rest. This is very different from all the other sessions as the area is bigger and it was a little harder..What I have learnt is that I need to adapt to the situation. As this game is conducted in a bigger area and even in a public place, I should expect the transmitters to be placed anywhere.I should be more confident in participating in the activity despite being in a different environment.
13Jun HuaOn this very day, we have arrived at our destination the Harris Hotel in Batam where we would conduct activities releating to our CCA Astronomy such as Foxhunting and telescope viewings. Today we did Foxhunting, for many it went well for them however luck and skill was not in my favor which led to a resounding 0 transmitters found. This was all due to my incompetence when it comes to team activities. I was so uncoordinated with my team member whom was trying his best for our team. I did things such as going off without him to a seperate area thinking it would be there instead of following him as I kept having the naive mindset that my wae was always right. I also kept switching between the different frequencies being very impatient and getting tilted that we could not get a single one while hearing the fruitions of some other groups.I realise now that I should be more patient and understanding when it comes to matters such as team activities. I should not let my lone wolf tendecies drag the team down when they're giving it their all. I should have more faith when it comes to trusting my teammates with their directions instead of wandering off on my own.I will follow my teammate when its their rotation and assist them in their venture as it would prove to be more effective and produce the best outcome for me and him.
14AndrienToday we travelled to Batam, put our bags down in the hotel. Then we went fox hunting in the afternoon, and went star gazing at night. There were some screws and antenna missing for the fox hunting equipment I learnt that small things can cause huge problems for us.We should help to check for the equipment and be more organised when doing things.
15ZacharyToday we travelled to batam by boat, then continued to the resort in a bus. We did some fox hunting activities after eating lunch, and gazed at the stars at night. We forgot to bring the bent eyepiece for stargazing and had to lie down to look at the stars through the telescope.I learnt how to aim the telescope at different stars and celestial objects without starfinders and lasers. We should bring a bent eyepiece and I should practice aiming the telescope.
16ErnestToday we travelled to Batam, settled down, and I helped build a telescope instead of foxhunting. We also did stargazing later before retiring for the dayThe packers/quartermasters did not pack/check the supplies properly, and lost two screws from two antenna along the way. Additionally no one realised that we might need the bent eyepiece so we had to lie down for stargazing, which annoyed others.Your plans can be tossed into disarrray by others. However, you can still adapt and continue productivity in such an eventPlan for potential disruptions
17MadhulikaToday we played fox hunting and did stargazing at nightThere were screws missing and antennas, thus we were left with only three transmitters and others had to help build telescope. Also for stargazing we didnt bring the diagonal bent eyepiece so we faced difficulty by lying down on the floor and observing the stars. Also for fox hunting, the game masters didnt know which fox they had placed.I have learn we should have full focus in whatever we do and not be carelessWe should be more organised, help each other and also be more attentive in what we are doing
